
Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born July 12, 1988[1], is a Canadian performer and actress. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to be a winner of. She is an actress and is well-known for her roles as Two as Rebecca or Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama series The Rookie.Although she was widely praised by the judges, O'Neil experienced major setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, as she was voted in both the lowest three and the bottom two, respectively. The judges asked viewers to cast their votes for contestants who resembled Melissa who was clearly a singer with the highest vocal ability. O'Neil's performances were always praised and O'Neil did not slip back into the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, called O'Neil "a threat to win everything". O'Neil, along with Rex Goudie, made it to the finals on September 7th on the 7th of September in 2005. Werner, a judge famously announced that the headlines for the next day's newspapers will be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead. The Queen will live forever." O'Neil defeated Goudie at the grand final results broadcast on September 14th, 2005 to win the title of Canada's third Idol.
